Calgary Group Update
October, 2007
I just wanted to give you some exciting news about what is going on with the medical students at the University of Calgary. We’ve been having Bible studies and prayer times together, once a week, since the semester started. We’re excited about the “Dinner with Docs” with Dr. Rob Crusher as our guest, speaking to us about some of the issues relating to “Integrating Faith With Practice”.
This is my first year doing this, so we don’t have a lot planned as yet. I’m just getting the feel for everything and having a great time getting to know the students and where they’re at. We have a great executive, three members right now, and they’re doing a fantastic job. In years to come, we’ll be putting together more events and giving the medical students a safe environment to share and explore their faith and help them look to the future as they begin to practice medicine.
Thank you for your support!

Hi everyone,
We hope that each of you had a blessed summer, and that you have been refreshed and renewed for the up-coming year. We serve an amazing God who calls us to join His work on our campuses.
God has done amazing things for our CMDS group. He has brought us many new first-year students, and many of them are eager to participate in our CMDS events. God has also answered our prayers by granting the leadership team unity and vision, and we continue to seek Him with all our hearts as we follow His guidance and direction.
We have had good small group attendance at our weekly lunch meetings. We are attempting to alternate by meeting in gender groups one week, and then all together as a large group the week after, to facilitate sharing and bonding. Please continue to pray for these meetings, specifically that the Lord would continue to meet us there and build our group up on the foundation of His Word and His love.
Finally, we have established a prayer team in our group, so please send us your prayer requests throughout the year. As we all begin the new year, it would be great to hear from each campus.
We'll leave you with this verse in closing:
"Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him and He will do this: He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun. Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him; do not fret when men succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes." ~ Psalm 37:3-7
God bless,
-Jenny and Reuben

Things at the University of Calgary have gone very well this year continuing to build on the success of the last few years. Again this year we used the system of monthly potlucks hosted by local docs supplemented by a weekly prayer/Bible study and the occasional special event, which included the “Medicine, Marriage and Kids” panel discussion which addressed the question of having children while at medical school. This seminar featured four couples who had children at different times in their medical schooling/practice who were able to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each of their individual scenario. This was recorded and is now available on DVD.
SLC was a highlight for the new Student Executive and we are just entering the planning phase for next year. Special thanks to Chantelle Peter and Anna Voeuk who did a fantastic job this last year. With Luke Harmer and Munier Nour on the executive this year, it is good to see some of the men becoming more involved in leadership activities compared to what we have seen in the past.
