HOW TO BE AN ODD DOC WITHOUT GETTING YOUR GOOSE COOKED By Dan Reilly, M.D. There is a right way to refuse when patients request for you to do something you believe is wrong. In this workshop you will come to understand and apply provincial medical colleague’s guidelines for refusing care due to moral objections. B. HAVE TIME OR DOES TIME HAVE YOU? By Jonathan Sherbino, M.D. Demands on time always exceed our supply. How are you coping? Come and share your challenges and learn from others about strategies for managing demands on your time in a manner that improves your well-being. C. SELF-CARE FOR THE BUSY DENTIST AND HEALTH CARE PROVIDER By John Palmer, D.D.S Promotion of self-care is integral to an effective long-term practice in health care. This workshop will increase your awareness of the subtle, but damaging liabilities which characterize the committed health care professional, and will provide you with effective tools to use on a daily basis to moderate the impact of stressors. D. GOD IN THE EXAM ROOM By David Chan, M.D. and Sue Carr, M.T.S We know that God is always present – the question is how we draw attention to that presence – or should we even try? If a clinical examination included a spiritual assessment, what would that look like? Does prayer have a place in the exam room? How could you offer it? This workshop will examine these and other questions. E. RECOVERING FROM INTERPERSONAL HURTFULNESS By Wanda Malcolm, M.D. When we hurt one another, we face one of the biggest challenges of our Christian life – the call to embody God’s reconciling love by seeking and offering forgiveness. This workshop offers some of the insights and skills needed to undertake the hard work of relationship repair in the wake of interpersonal hurtfulness. F. SEXUALITY - WHAT GOES WRONG - AND HOW TO FIX IT By Irving Augustine, M.T.S. Our sexuality is God-given and an important means of gaining personal, social and spiritual maturity. It can be a wonderful mystery and adventure, or a tormenting misery, and everything in between. We will look at what God and some of the best authors have to say. For preparatory reading Mr. Augustine suggests 'Passionate Marriage' by David Schnarch. This is not for the fainthearted! G. WHEN CHURCH BECOMES A FALSE GOD By Don Corry Authentic faith should be expressed relationally but can evolve into religious patterns that can become addictive or abusive. Church becomes a false god when a sense of mission and an aura of love is replaced by workaholic and controlling patterns. This workshop will examine potential unhealthy patterns found in church life, and discuss the positive steps to build a balance between career and community responsibilities. H. PANEL DISCUSSION: MORE THAT JUST A SPOUSE Facilitated by Mary-Lou Hanna and Dan Hardock Spouses of doctors are invited to share stories of the ups and down, joys and trials of living with "The Doctor". Dinner & Debate: CHRISTIAN MEDICAL AID IN THE DEVELOPING WORLD - GOOD FOR US, BAD FOR THEM? By Jean Chamberlain, M.D. and Dan Reilly, M.D. Does short term medical missions provide the first world "tourists" with benefits while harming the locals?
