Planned Giving Programme

Planned Giving is a way for the donor to make a contribution to the ministry in the future, that could possibly benefit him/her today, while providing for heirs. “Where there’s a will, there’s a way.”

Our Planned Giving Programme not only lets you choose which method of giving is right for you, but offers you two choices as to where your gift will be used:

  • CMDS Development Trust–participating in outreach activities. Teaching Christian physicians, dentists and students to "Integrate faith into their practice".

  • CanMedSend Development Trust–enabling healthcare professionals to serve around the world, through Canadian mission-sending agencies.

Information brochures, about the two different trusts, can be obtained from the CMDS National Office (see "Contact Us"), or click the document Icons below to access the electronic version.

Donating to Canadian Charities
has become highly attractive.

Once people understand these benefits, it is expected
that donations of stocks will rise by more than 50%.

The 2006 Conservative party budget, incorporated benefits to donors with regard to capital gains tax on publicly listed securities donated to charities.

In other words, non-cash assets donated to charitable organizations will not incur any capital gains tax being attributed to the donor. Because Ottawa has given charitable organizations this added benefit, your gift can help launch new initiatives within CMDS or CanMedSend. In addition to gifts of publicly listed securities and stocks, you may also make gifts of life insurance, annuities, revocable and irrevocable trusts, or leave a bequest in your will through the Planned Giving program.

Brochures regarding the different types of gifts are available upon request through the CMDS National Office (see "Contact Us"), or click the document Icons below to access the electronic version.

Financial Services for CMDS Members

Recently, CMDS Canada became a sponsor charity for Link Charity Canada (LCC), which is a federally incorporated charitable organization that acts as a “flow through” agent for non-cash gifts that individuals wish to donate to charities of their choice.

There is no longer any capital gain to report as taxable income when a publicly traded security is transferred directly to a charity. LCC is able to facilitate your gifts of stock or mutual funds by having accounts with several brokerage houses, including a permanent MD Management account to receive, as a charity, transfers from your MD Management investments. LCC will take your instructions to liquidate the gifted securities, and then follow your instructions to distribute the proceeds to the charities of your choice. Such gifts are not restricted to CMDS, or CanMedSend, but also your church, mission agency, university; or any qualified donee (one gift through LCC can be designated for several different charities of the donor’s choice).

Several other LCC services may be of interest, for example:
  • For those over 70 seeking largely tax exempt income for life, the gift annuity is a great vehicle. LCC is one of only two or three charities that give you the choice to support any charities of your choice through one charitable gift annuity.

  • You can now name charities as beneficiaries of an RRSP or RRIF and thereby bypass the will and estate administration costs. You simply designate LCC as the beneficiary, and provide LCC a letter of direction to make the distribution of funds to the charities of your choice. This letter can be amended at any time.

Our relationship with LCC greatly reduces paperwork and is a significant enhancement to the services provided by CMDS Canada to its members.
